This charming illustration features an ink stamp en verso which reads "THE ESTATE OF ANDY WARHOL". A beautiful rendering.
Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) was a leader of contemporary art, which solidified the way that we now visualize the mid-century Americana, its faces, and its mass culture. Warhol was a producer, director, printmaker, and illustrator who hailed from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From his beginnings in the commercial art world, Warhol held a firm grasp of popular image and advertising power. By the time of his death in 1987, Warhol's name would become synonymous with the The Factory, Studio 54, Campbell's Tomato Soup, and, most succinctly, Pop Art.
