Description

Franco-Prussian War-WW1 Extremely RARE Copper M1847 Enlisted Man's Belt Buckle with from the Kingdom of Prussia. This item is 173+years old. I have collected Central European Military items for over 40 years and have NEVER seen a Copper M1847 Belt Buckle before this one. Copper is a heavy soft metal and once combined with Zinc becomes Brass. Brass is a lot more economical to make and occasionally I find a buckle that has been made in Copper by mistake, but never a M1847 Buckle before this one. The buckle shows little wear and and based on it's age is in remarkable shape. Typically buckles have some type of denting, this example has NO DENTS. There are subtle differences to Prussian Belt Buckles prior to their Kings being proclaimed as German Emperor's at the conclusion of this war with France. This is an extremely rare item. This item was purchased in Europe many years ago.
The German 8th Army on the Eastern Front in WW1 had most of the old production Buckles for some unknown reason. Once Russia settled with the Central Powers in 1917 many of the German units were transferred to the Western Front for the balance of the war. This buckle could have started it’s service prior to the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 and finished in 1918.
