Description

This enlisted man's belt & ( M1895 ) Brass buckle is from before the Great War. The belt is maker marked Albert Heinz, Leipziz-G, ( see photos) Leipzig is the largest city in he former Kingdom of Saxony. The belt is brown and was not dyed black when regulations changed mid-war to eliminate anything reflective. Brass Belt Buckles from this period commonly have some type of denting. This example has slight denting on the crown. The patina on the brass is great. The belt measures 35" overall and was field modified down in size as the war progressed and food was short. In any case this belt & buckle are in great condition considering it's age. 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War. The German Empire was made up of four Kingdoms, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurtemberg along with several Grand Duchies, Duchies and Principalities. They all contributed to the German war effort and the larger ones had some distinctive uniforms. Prussia was the largest Kingdom and this buckle carries the Prussian Crown with the motto "GOTT MIT UNS" or GOD'S WITH US". Collectibles from this period in any condition are becoming more difficult to find. Certainly items from this period will appreciate as time marches on.
